Installed Linux for the Very First Time in My Life!

Hello World! I’m writing this message from a Linux system!

Today is Sunday, and I installed Mandriva Linux just now. I must be honest, I don’t understand so many things, but for me, it’s so fascinating that I was even able to do that.

I quite like that paradigm shift from Windows!

Novelty

As someone who has been using Windows for years, making the leap to Linux felt like stepping into an entirely new world. I’d heard about Linux’s flexibility and customization, but it was only recently that I decided to take the plunge and install it for the first time. The experience turned out to be not just a software switch, but a genuine paradigm shift.

Concerns

I’m not sure yet, whether I’d be able to switch to it completely. I want to learn Adobe Creative Suite too, and it’s not available on Linux. I want to enhance my knowledge of Macromedia Flash (Adobe Flash now) too. As it seems to be very popular for multimedia on the web.

Apart from that, I really like Linux, and it just feels very different. I have not much experience with Mac OS X, but according to what I’ve seen while playing with an iMac recently, it’s very similar to Linux, actually. Or vice versa, Linux is very similar to Mac OS X with many regards.

Since I have the office machine now, and I don’t use my home computer much, I decided it’s safe to try something different. Anyway, I can re-install something else back as soon as I’d like.

Also, it seems my computer works faster with it. Maybe that’s an illusion. Coming from Windows, there’s not much software installed as of now, and as I have 2 GB of RAM, it should be slow anyway. But I have this impression that it looks good and it works quickly. I’m trying different software, and the first thing that strikes me is how different it is! I cannot claim it’s better or worse, but I’m surprised by how different it is. Maybe, it’s not that surprising for those lucky ones who have Macs, I don’t know.

See ya, guys!
